System build
VSD Solutions has many Years’ experience in the design and manufacture of drive systems,
in numerous industries and sectors. Systems are locally designed and built, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, and the use of locally source-able components. Systems are always engineered with the emphasis on good Project Management to deliver the optimum solution within time and financial targets.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAVE MONEY?
There are a number of ways to mitigate the ever increasing cost, and diminishing availability
of energy sources. One is the opportunity to use Parker VSDs to use less energy whilst still achieving the same physical result. VSD Solutions can help you maximize your opportunities
by realizing the full potential of Parker Drives.
If you have a centrifugal pump or a fan on your site which is running at full speed (powered by
a direct online, star delta, or soft starter), there is probably an opportunity to fit a Parker VSD
and save money.
A pump or fan obeys a characteristic as shown below, flow increases with fan speed linearly,
motor torque increase as the square of speed and motor power the cube of motor speed.
Therefore if you can reduce the speed of your motor even slightly, you achieve disproportionately high reductions in power, and power is the quantity that costs you money.
If you consider the classic air supply scenario where a fixed speed motor drives a fan, and the
air is regulated by means of a throttle or damper. This also goes for any fluid pumping system where flow is restricted by a valve. You can draw an analogy to driving a car; the fan speed represents the accelerator and the throttle the brake. The set up above has the accelerator
pedal fully down and speed controlled by a brake, No one would drive their car like that;
it would be wasteful, expensive and a bit silly. Removing the damper, using a VSD and lowering the speed to achieve the same flow - just as you drive your car gives great savings.
For example dropping the speed to 80% lowers your power usage to this cubed, (0.8 x0.8 x 0.8) i.e. 51.2%. Your 250KW load previously with damping is now running at a theoretical power of 128KW. Expectations have to be a bit more realistic, the curve above is theoretical, and it takes no account
of other factors like the power needed for static and dynamic head pressure and other losses.
This means that the figures suggested from the graph may not be entirely recognizable, but for
sure if the speed is reduced there will be a significant saving.
Energy Efficiency, and Energy appraisals

Energy savings with variable speed drives (VSDs)
Savings
These savings typically give a payback period of less than 18 months, and beyond that it
is money straight into your pocket. A conservative estimate of VSD lifetimes is 10-15 years.
It is also possible to let a Parker VSD control the air or water flow directly if a flow sensor is used,
the drive can regulate its speed automatically to give constant flow or pressure. Parker drives also come fitted with an energy usage calculator so actual savings can be monitored. These features
are just a few of the many functions available for free, in an extremely configurable drive family.
